Donovan McNabb traded to Redskins: Too bad, Eagles fans

“Donovan McNabb traded to Redskins” is the sort of headline that makes the average Philadelphia Eagles fan want to either dance in the streets or chuck batteries at the Energizer Bunny because he didn’t run quite long enough. The former group focuses in on his lack of Super Bowl victories and supposedly inaccurate arm. The latter is simply surly. They’re the exact same group who would poo poo Mike Schmidt and Santa Claus.

McNabb’s new home is ecstatic to have the six-time Pro Bowler, or at least that’s how the Washington Post puts it. Philadelphia was bold to move him, and the result will most likely be something that falls short of but will nevertheless resemble bold ineptitude. Enjoy the Phillies this season, Eagles fans. They’re certainly worth it. Michael Vick at QB is not. Kevin Kolb is a wait-and-see – either a sleeper who can be getting a big salary loan soon or a mediocre QB.

This could mean a starting QB for D.C. with McNabb being traded to Redskins

McNabb traded to the Redskins also means that where there was uncertainty with Jason Campbell, now Washington knows what they’re getting. A second-round draft pick (37th pick overall) as well as a fourth-round pick in 2011 was all they had to give up to get him. That said, if McNabb performs well, according to the Post, that 2011 pick could become a third-round selection.

Don’t expect him to come up with a performance like what he conjured a few years ago, when he was branded the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Year and led the Eagles to Super Bowl XXXIX in 2004. Despite current circumstances, McNabb held his own ground – 31 touchdowns, 8 interceptions and a 104.7 quarterback rating. Now gobble down that greasy sandwich and wipe your hands on your filthy undershirt and Underoos. Just keep your football “knowledge” to yourselves and cover your nose and mouth whenever you sneeze. If I’m waiting in the payday loans line, I certainly don’t want your mutant germs all over me.

Donovan McNabb – achieving four straight division titles and five conference champions for the Eagles

Of course he would have traded it all in for Super Bowl victory, but really, how many other worthy quarterbacks never conquered the Super Bowl? Among them, Donovan McNabb ranks highly well. Bearing in mind McNabb’s stats (numbers that are even better than John Elway’s, particularly when touchdowns and interceptions are considered) – over 32,000 passing yards and 200 touchdowns from – news like “McNabb traded to the Redskins” should make D.C. fans smile.
